Prospects of Nullification

I've been meaning to write something here for a couple weeks now on the upcoming presidential election. Not a prediction of the outcome - I honestly have no idea who will eke out a victory - but rather the prospect of a nullification crisis in the Western states resulting from a Trump administration that has gone fully over to the dark side.

In one sense, it's almost unthinkable since the nullification crisis most people think of is due to South Carolina that ended up kick starting the Civil War. But, on the other... it seems unlikely that Trump will win the popular vote (again) and there is an express train of crazy from the 5th Circuit to a Supreme Court whose membership is 1/3 composed of justices nominated by a president who lost the popular vote and a seat that by all rights should have been filled by Obama. Never mind the ethical disasters of Alito and Thomas, particularly.

At some point, one of the Pacific Coast states will simply declare "enough" and decide they aren't going to comply with some federal action. What specifically precipitates this, I don't know. Abortion maybe and the enforcement of bounty laws? Attempting to prosecute/arrest people such as a Liz Cheney for overtly non-criminal reasons and a sheltering state saying "no"? Trump trying to declare some odd version of martial law in Seattle, San Francisco or LA?

My best bet for a Pacific state to propose such a drastic measure would be California in part because Washington, outside of the Puget Sound is basically Trump country and Oregon is just kind of a small population state. I do think that Washington would follow along with California and possibly Oregon also. California has a gravity to make it serious.

Hopefully, this is all a fever dream, but I am very, very worried about where things are headed. In some ways, many ways, the fact I am talking about such things mean the battle is already lost.
